# Check how an online visit works

An online visit is telehealth: care at a distance. Ask how information reaches the person deciding treatment and how you can reply.

## A conversation versus an online question sheet alone

### A conversation

Find out how the person deciding treatment can ask more questions and how you can ask your own.

### An online question sheet alone

Advice from medical boards, checked September 26, 2026, says a fixed online question sheet alone is not enough for a treatment decision. The person deciding treatment needs enough information to decide and a means of asking further questions. This is advice to state medical boards, not a law that applies across the country. [Medical boards · Online health checks ↗ ](https://www.fsmb.org/siteassets/advocacy/policies/fsmb-workgroup-on-telemedicineapril-2022-final.pdf)

An online question sheet can collect information. Ask how the person deciding treatment will check your health beyond those answers. For an Arizona visit, the examination rules on the visit-comparison page still apply.

## Check how the online visit works

- Confirm your location for the visit.

- Ask for the prescriber’s name and the licence or other board permission that allows them to treat you in Arizona.

- Ask how your agreement to the visit (consent) and your visit record are handled.

- Ask what happens if the connection fails or a room examination is needed.

- Ask how to phone or send a message to the person treating you after the visit.

## Arizona’s requirements

Arizona usually requires consent for telehealth care, as of October 3, 2026. Agreeing once the care is explained is called consent. Verbal consent needs a record. [Arizona law · Consent and records ↗ ](https://www.azleg.gov/ars/36/03602.htm)

As of October 3, 2026, some doctors and other care professionals licensed in another state can sign up with their matching Arizona board to treat patients who are in Arizona by video or phone. This sign-up is called telehealth registration. [Arizona law · Out-of-state registration ↗ ](https://www.azleg.gov/ars/36/03606.htm)

As of October 3, 2026, that registration is not a full Arizona licence and does not allow office visits in Arizona. [Arizona law · Registration limits ↗ ](https://www.azleg.gov/ars/36/03606.htm)

## Keep this answer

Ask for the prescriber’s licence or registration details in writing so you can check them with the board. Also get a phone number or message address for questions after the visit.
