# Check the roles in a room visit

Ask who checks your health, who orders medicine, and who gives any injection. Keep each name and job on the visit note.

## Who decides versus who gives it

### The treatment decision

Ask for the prescriber’s name and role. Ask who explains the reason for the medicine.

### The person giving the shot

Arizona law lets trained medical assistants give shots under direct supervision, as of October 3, 2026. An MD (medical doctor), PA (physician assistant), or nurse practitioner must be available in the same room or office suite. A nurse practitioner is a nurse who can check health problems and make treatment decisions within their training. To order medicines in Arizona, that nurse needs the Nursing Board’s permission and must work within the patient group covered by their training. ## What a facility search can tell you

Freestanding urgent-care centres, offices that keep patients overnight, and abortion or pain-management clinics as defined by law fall outside this exemption. Offices using general anesthesia, which puts a patient to sleep for a procedure, are also an exception, with a separate rule for dental offices. Ask the office whether it needs a facility licence or meets an exemption, and which one.

Check the person’s licence as well as any record for the office. Get the names and roles in writing.
